It’s no secret that winter is rough on skin, especially a Michigan winter. Typically, my hands and face are flaky and dry by this point in the year, but so far I’ve been able to keep the flakes at bay. Here’s what has been working for me:
A humidifier is a necessity during the winter, and not just when you’re sick! Everyone pulls the humidifier out for their kids when they’re sick, but they don’t always seem to think of it for themselves. And it’s not enough just to have one in your room – I’m talking right at your bedside, blowing on your face all night. If there is only one thing you take from this post, let it be this. It’s a game changer!
I’ve been using raw shea butter religiously since my second pregnancy. I used it on my belly with essential oils to prevent stretch marks, but these days I use it for my hands. My hands seriously take a beating when I’m running around in the winter with my kids (gloves seem too cumbersome most of the time when you’re buckling kids in and out of car seats). This stuff is HEAVY duty. I use it before bed, and when I wake up in the morning. I prefer whipped shea butter as I think it’s easier to apply. During the winter the last thing I want to do is use a cleanser that will strip the natural oils from my skin. This product is an oil based cleanser that you massage onto dry skin, and then wipe off with a warm washcloth. It’s nourishing and doesn’t strip away the natural oils. Plus, it’s super versatile – You can use it as a mask for extra moisture, use it on dry, scaly patches, and it’s gentle enough you can even use this on your baby’s dry skin! What are your ride or die wintertime products? Tell me in the comments!
