Are you trying to avoid plastic cups for your littles? We're learning more and more how harmful the chemicals in plastic are (even BPA free plastic), so it's definitely a wise choice to try to avoid eating and drinking out of plastic as much as possible. But with so many options out there, it can be overwhelming! I wanted to share with you guys my four favorites safe cup options for little ones.
One thing to keep in mind is that none of these cups are spill proof or leak proof. I don't do spill proof for a couple of reasons, the main one being mold. I find that most spill proof cups are REALLY hard or almost impossible to totally clean. There always seems to be some crack or crevice that I can't easily get to, and that just becomes a breeding ground for mold. Now let's get to the goods... 1. Siliskin Cup This cup is awesome. It's a small glass tumbler that is the perfect size for little hands. It has a removable silicone sleeve on the outside that makes it easy to grip and protects it from falls. I start my littles out with cups very early (my 9 month old even uses a cup at mealtimes with help). I think it's an important skill for them to learn, and I think it's good for them to understand the cause and effect concept - if they tip their cup, the water will spill. That's good for them to understand! Plus, it's so much easier for me once they can drink from a regular cup - I don't have to worry about bringing a special cup with me everywhere we go!
2. Stainless Steel Straw Tumbler
I bought a two pack for my oldest son last year for Christmas, and these were a hit! The cup itself is good grade stainless steel, the lid is plastic, and the straw is silicone. This is a great option for when you're on the go. As I mentioned above, these aren't spill proof, but they're pretty darn close! Plus, these are great for smoothies because of the thick straw.
3. Green Sprouts Sippy Cup
This sippy cup is so unique! It's plastic on the outside with a glass interior. So it can handle drops and falls without breaking, but the liquid that your baby is drinking is only touching glass - it's brilliant! It comes with a straw top and a soppy top that is interchangeable. I highly recommend this.
4. A Child Sized Ceramic or Pottery Mug
This recommendation is just for fun. My toddler LOVES drinking tea and hot cocoa, and it's so fun to have a small mug that is just his size. It makes it feel more special! And of course if it's pottery or ceramic, this is a safe, clean option.
What cups do you love for your little ones?
